About the role: Primary responsibilities for this role is mentoring and coaching of agile and/or infrastructure & operations teams within capability areas or services. The role facilitates the professional development of team members and ensures plans are in place to elevate the performance of an empowered team. The Manager’s goal is to enable the team to solve its own problems and come up with its own amazing insights and products. Key skills are ability to assess team health, remove organizational impediments making room for failure and having the ability to coach. Responsibilities. Takes bold action to ensure strong, diverse talent and leadership pipelines are in place with the right skills to meet business needs and goals. Plans and manages agile team resourcing or recruitment plans. Mentors, coaches, and inspires team members to higher levels of performance. Ensures development plans are focused on enhancing skills and expertise needed within the team. This includes 1-on-1 situational coaching towards results, experimentation, and learning. Partners closely with leadership across capabilities and disciplines to ensure that appropriate skills and/or training is in place to deliver on the agreed business initiatives and capabilities. Identifies and addresses skills gaps in a capability that may impact on the ability to meet the demands of the business. Identifies and promotes pairing/cross training opportunities to enrich the expertise of the team and limit constraints or deficits of specific skills across the organization. For Scrum teams, works with business partners and Scrum Master to translate the business strategy or roadmap into backlog items to be managed by the Scrum Master within an Agile Scrum Team. Oversees and evaluates the overall delivery of the team and takes action to address where necessary. Removes obstacles and roadblocks that impact the performance of the team and the delivery of business benefits and outcomes. These could be impediments acknowledged by team, escalated by Scrum Master, or challenges to agility the managers observes. Demonstrates creativity and innovation in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder. Promotes same within team. While the Manager has accountability for efficient delivery of the team, the Manager will look to develop a self-organizing team (be cross-functional, be in partnership w/ business, collaboration, work quickly and unencumbered, be empowered and autonomous, be able to focus on self-improvement) and supports the management activities that make self-organization successful. Carry out regular reviews of each team member’s plan and ensures the team member is progressing and addressing skill development needs. Investigates and develops innovative methods of exploiting IT assets to the benefit of the company. Leverages the portfolio management and governance process to reinforce agile values and make frequent planning cycle decisions regarding which work to stop, start, or continue based on the return of the highest business value now; maximize value while embracing feedback and change.
